Garden Grove honors local graduates

On Friday, May 14, 2021, 27 Garden Grove residents were recognized at the 2021 Virtual Garden Grove College Graduates’ Reception. Hosted by Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones and the Garden Grove City Council, the virtual event was live streamed on the City’s Facebook and Garden Grove TV3 YouTube.

Mayor Steve Jones applauded the graduates for their accomplishments in higher education, especially during a worldwide pandemic, and encouraged them to stay rooted in Garden Grove.

“Despite having to recoup from a very hard year, Garden Grove continues to set the bar in Orange County with so much to offer. I know there are several different career disciplines among our graduates. All of those careers have major employers here in Garden Grove,” said Mayor Steve Jones.

Graduate degrees included Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and Master of Social Work. Several graduates had a unique story of success and perseverance. One graduate completed her master’s degree while expecting her third child. Another graduate, in her late 40s, was excited to become the first college graduate in her family.

Each graduate was entered into an opportunity drawing for a chance to win cash prizes. Over $3,000 was awarded to winning graduates.

Sponsors for the event were dtn.tech, Garden Grove Shell #1, Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association, Signal Hill Petroleum, West Grove Construction, Credit Union of Southern California, and Nicholas Dibs.
