Lakewood’s Summer Concerts return

Lakewood’s popular Summer Concert Series will kick off in June with two drive-in concerts at Lakewood Center on Thursday evenings near El Torito restaurant.

On June 17, the Amanda Castro Band kicks off the summer with Modern Big Band sounds, followed on June 24 by the Blue Breeze Band with Motown, R&B, soul and funk.

The drive-in concerts begin at 6:30 p.m., with car staging beginning at 5:30 p.m. Residents will be charged $10 per car; the non-resident rate is $15 per car. Pre-registration is required and is open to 100 vehicles.

Then, starting July 8, the concert series returns to its traditional home at Del Valle Park with six more outdoor concerts in a more traditional, in-person setting.

The live outdoor performances are a great sign of Lakewood’s increasing return to normalcy after a year and a half of the COVID pandemic. The July concerts will still need to be in line with public health regulations in effect at the time to provide a safe experience. Pre-registration may be required. Details will be announced closer to the July concert dates as well as on the city’s website at www.lakewoodcity.org/Concerts. But let’s all keep our fingers crossed that we can proceed with great in-person fun, listening to music under the trees at Del Valle Park!
