On May 5, 2021 at approximately 3:25 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Redondo Avenue and 15th Street, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a motorcyclist, Honda Accord, and Ford Mustang were involved in a traffic collision. Good Samaritans called 9-1-1 and rendered aid to the injured motorcyclist until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital.

Through their preliminary investigation, officers learned a 57-year-old resident of San Diego was driving his 2015 Honda Accord westbound on 15th Street when he struck a 34-year-old resident of Long Beach driving northbound on Redondo Avenue on his 2013 Yamaha motorcycle. This impact caused the motorcyclist to lose control of his motorcycle and collide into a 2013 Ford Mustang driven by a 22-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The drivers of the Honda Accord and the Ford Mustang remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver of the Honda Accord was identified through his valid California Driver’s License and the driver of the Ford Mustang was identified by his out of country identification card. Neither distracted nor impaired driving are believed to have been a factor in the collision.

On June 16, 2021, detectives were notified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office that the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries on June 6, 2021. The decedent has been identified as John Michael Marshall Insley of Long Beach.
