With back-to-school just around the corner for many school districts in the state, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is encouraging families to make a plan to get students, ages 12 and up, vaccinated before the start of school. The vaccination process takes about 5 weeks to reach immunity. Families in schools that start in mid-August or early-September should begin the vaccination process as soon as possible so they are COVID-19 safe before the first day of school, according to public health experts.
COVID-19 vaccinations for young people ages 12 and over are widely available and proven in protecting against severe illness, hospitalization and death.
