Traffic fatality at 4th Street at Ximeno Avenue

On July 6, 2021 at 10:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 4th Street and Ximeno Avenue regarding an injury vehicle accident, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female in the roadway, suffering from major injuries to her upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital for her life-threatening injuries.

On July 8th, 2021, detectives were notified that the victim succumbed to her injuries. The victim has been identified as Jere Whitney, a 78-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was crossing 4th Street while walking in a marked crosswalk with a green light. The suspect vehicle was traveling northbound on Ximeno Avenue and made a left turn onto 4th Street, striking the victim while she was in the marked crosswalk. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene, traveling westbound on 4th Street.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red Subaru Outback or Crosstrek.
