Fatal pedestrian accident on Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach

On July 5, 2021, at approximately 2:52 a.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) responded to a traffic collision in the southbound lanes of Beach Boulevard near Garfield Avenue, involving a pedestrian and a 2018 silver Kia Rio.

Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, a 45-year old male from Huntington Beach, deceased in the roadway.

The driver of the Kia Rio, a 35-year old male from Anaheim, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the Rio was traveling southbound on Beach Boulevard when the pedestrian stepped off of the center median and into the roadway where he was struck. No one else was injured as a result of this traffic collision.

The collision investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
