Long Beach Exchange (LBX), East Long Beach’s premier dining and shopping destination, has announced the addition of Romeo Chocolates to its lineup of eateries inside of The Hangar. Award-winning Romeo Chocolates, a Long Beach-owned and operated business combining European traditions and ethically sourced cacao and chocolates from around the world, will be opening its doors at LBX this fall.
“Our patrons have come to expect a diverse assortment of exceptional food and beverage options when visiting Long Beach Exchange,” notes Steve Thorp, Partner at Burnham-Ward Properties, developers and managers of the center. “Romeo Chocolates has become a staple in the Long Beach community, known for their top-notch line of chocolatey desserts. We are very excited to be welcoming Romeo and his team to the LBX family, and are confident they will fit right in.”
Founded by Chef and CEO Romeo Garcia, Romeo Chocolates first opened as a pop-up in various neighborhoods throughout Long Beach since 2014, followed by its flagship location on Pine Street in 2017. Driven by his passion for the craft of chocolate making, Romeo is dedicated to sharing the nuance of flavor in fine chocolate sourced from rare regions from around the world. With social justice serving as a guiding compass, Romeo and his team are committed to fair trade and direct trade relationships with farmers and makers. Romeo Chocolates serves an array of chocolate and dessert items including truffles, pastries, gift boxes, chocolate bars, frozen treats, chocolate covered strawberries, and more.

Romeo Chocolates will officially open in late November, just in time for the holiday season. In celebration of its grand opening, guests who visit on grand opening day will be entered to win exciting prizes in a raffle and can enjoy other special treats. Romeo Chocolates will be open inside of The Hangar at Long Beach Exchange Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 – 7:30 p.m. to start and will eventually extend its hours of operation.
About Romeo Garcia and Romeo Chocolates
Chef Romeo discovered a passion for chocolate making while taking cooking classes in San Francisco on the weekend to unwind from a fast-paced career in higher education for the past 14 years. In his search for re-centering and relaxing from long workdays, Romeo became enamored with the artistry of design, balance of flavors, and the richness of the story of cacao and chocolate-making.
An avid learner, Romeo decided to take a creative sabbatical and a career change. He enrolled and graduated from Ecole Chocolat Professional School of Chocolate Arts and completed the Master Chocolatier Program in Belgium. He continued his studies with Chef Russ Thayer in Chicago Chocolate Academy and with Chef Melissa Coppel in Las Vegas Atelier d’ Coppel, and Chef Gabriele Riva.
Romeo currently serves as a member of the Fine Chocolate Industry Association and is an avid permaculturalist who loves houseplants, flowers, and creating unique gifts that pair well with chocolate. Romeo now calls Long Beach home, where he carefully sources local ingredients and cacao from various regions from around the world that he uses to make each and every one of his chocolates.
