We will initially report on the first release — immediately after the polls close at 8 p.m. — here in Orange County and statewide. That count will consist of mostly already-received mail-in ballots and should trend in favor of Gavin Newsom.

An hour later we will report on the first batch after that.

Then we’ll go to sleep, because the election won’t be over until all the mail-in ballots are counted, and mail-in ballots can be mailed as late as election day (today).

Tomorrow morning, we’ll see how things have changed, both here in Orange County and statewide.

Then we’ll wait as the remaining mail-in ballots are counted.

Watch this space beginning at 8:05 p.m.!
