Senator Dave Min writes letter urging Orange City Council to Keep Mary’s Kitchen Open

Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) penned a letter to the Orange City Council urging it to reverse course on its previous decision to terminate the lease of Mary’s Kitchen, a longstanding community institution that has become a key provider of services to the unhoused population in the area.

In the letter, Senator Min expressed his “strongest opposition” to the City’s plans to close down Mary’s Kitchen, and noted that the City of Orange has “already acknowledged the importance of [the benefits provided by Mary’s Kitchen] by including Mary’s Kitchen in its 5th Cycle Housing Element as one of the City’s few providers of mainstream services to homeless persons…”

Senator Min further warned: “Should [the City of Orange] proceed with closing Mary’s Kitchen, rest assured that I will be working closely with the California Department of Housing and Community Development to ensure that the City’s new Housing Element replaces those lost services and is in full compliance with the law.’
