Los Coyotes Elementary School awarded the National Blue Ribbon School Award

U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, announced today that Los Coyotes Elementary School, a school in the Centralia Elementary School District (CESD), has been named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School. Los Coyotes is one of two schools in Orange County recognized in the “Exemplary High Performing School” category.

Los Coyotes will now serve as a model of effective school practices for state and district educators throughout the nation and retain the title of National Blue Ribbon School evermore. National Blue Ribbon Schools are considered to be the pinnacle of pioneering and innovative educational practices from professional learning communities, who excel at project-based learning as well as social and emotional learning and positive behavior systems. The National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition program is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s effort to identify effective school leadership and promising instructional practices. Schools are nominated by the state department of education and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices.

Dr. Vicki Wong, Los Coyotes Principal stated “it is indeed a high honor to be the principal of Los Coyotes, a deserving recipient of the National Blue Ribbon School Award. The true recognition and spotlight belong to the teachers, staff, families, and community for laying the foundation for our students to excel in academics. Their long-standing and unwavering dedication to excellence in education is now being recognized.”

“We are extremely proud that Los Coyotes Elementary school is being honored as a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Superintendent Norma E. Martinez. She continues, “Los Coyotes Elementary’s attention to academics, student leadership development and meaningful engagement practices, along with an incredibly dedicated staff, supportive families and hardworking students, all contribute to the success of the school. In these unprecedented times, earning this award makes this a truly special moment. On behalf of the district and our Board of Education, I congratulate all students, staff, and the community on such a fantastic accomplishment.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools will be recognized by the Department of Education in a special award ceremony to take place in early November in National Harbor, Maryland.
