On Saturday, October 2, 2021, Working Wardrobes hosted the Celebrating Under the Stars gala, presented by U.S. Bank, raising over $452,000. This makes the event the most successful fundraiser in Working Wardrobes’ 31 year history.
The funds raised at this annual event support the nonprofit’s programs and services, aimed at helping the unemployed and underemployed in our community get the resources they need to rejoin the workforce. This was the first gala event the organization hosted since 2019, prior to the pandemic. There were 320 guests in attendance.
This year’s event, which took place outdoors in the gardens of Turnip Rose in Costa Mesa, featured an evening of food, dancing under the stars, fundraising through games and clothing sales, and silent and live auctions featuring items like tastings and tours at various California wineries, resort stays in Mexico, Hawaii, Jackson Hole, Antigua, Saint James, and Barbados, fitness packages, clothing and accessories from luxury brands, a Safari trip, and more.
The Irvine Barclay Theater Jazz Band, led by Jerry Mandel, donated their talents to entertain guests at the opening reception.
“We are thrilled to have been a part of this amazing event and continuing our long-lasting partnership and support for Working Wardrobes that makes a real difference in our community,” says Carl Jordan of U.S. Bank, a long-standing partner and donor to the organization. “In the shadow of the pandemic, Working Wardrobes’ mission has never been more important, and we are honored to be part of this celebration of the work they do.”
The gala was the final Working Wardrobes event with Jerri Rosen leading the organization. Jerri, who founded the popular nonprofit in 1990, and has served as CEO since, will be retiring at the end of December. The evening was a special opportunity for friends and supporters to recognize and celebrate her 31 years of service and leadership.
“It was a wonderful time to thank Jerri for her amazing work in our community, and for having such a meaningful impact on so many people,” says Jordan.
Additional sponsors of the event include moonlight sponsor Boot Barn, Starlight sponsors Pacific Premier Bank, Pacific Western Bank, UPS, Windsor, and Capital Group, Radiance sponsors Sally Anderson & Tom Rogers, Boeing, C3 Tech, KPMG, Leaderology, Mechanics Bank, Optum, Robert Half, Jana Turner, UBS, and In-N-Out Burger, and Sparkle sponsors Make Dust, Newmeyer Dillion, Pence Wealth Management, and Kim Shepherd.
