WalletHub Study: 2021’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans

With the U.S. Women’s National Team having won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics this year, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2021’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans, as well as accompanying videos and expert commentary.

To find the best places for loving on the world’s favorite sport, WalletHub compared nearly 300 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional soccer team across five divisions comprising 52 key metrics. The data set ranges from minimum season-ticket price for a game to stadium accessibility to number of championship wins.

Best vs. Worst

  • For MLS, New York City FC’s performance level, 50.72 percent, is 2.9 times better than the FC Cincinnati’s 17.52 percent.
     
  • For NWSL, North Carolina Courage’s performance level, 66.67 percent, is three times better than the NJ/NY Gotham FC’s and Washington Spirit’s 22.22 percent.
     
  • For USL, Phoenix Rising FC’s performance level, 65.07 percent, is 3.3 times better than Loudoun United FC’s 20.02 percent. 
     
  • Salt Lake City, has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an MLS game, $238, which is 2.2 times less expensive than in Atlanta, the city with the highest at $527.
     
  • Salt Lake City has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for a USL game, $80, which is 4.5 times less expensive than in Oakland, California, the city with the highest at $360.
