Shared QB duties and a serious injury blunt Trojan happiness in 41-34 win over Arizona

Unhappy Arizona bore the weight of the Trojans sending their roller coast skyward once more, in a 41-34 loss for the Wildcats that brought some Homecoming happiness to the Trojans. Arizona trailed in all the stats except for penalties and third down conversions, accruing 130 penalty yards for 12 penalties and converting 8 of 15 third downs.

USC mad it into the end zone twice in the first quarter, first on a 3-yard run by Keaontay Ingram and then on a 62-yard pass from Kedon Slovis to Gary Bryant, Jr. Ingram rushed for a total of 186 yards. Slovis shared quarterback duties with Jaxson Dart, with no explanation offered by interim coach Donte Williams. Arizona scored on a 73-yard pass from Jamarye Joiner to Tayvi Cunningham.

The second quarter opened with a bang and a whimper for USC, with two touchdowns and points after before Arizona could respond. Unfortunately, Drake London was injured on the second touchdown and taken off the field. He later returned to the bench with a cast on his leg. Meanwhile, Arizona scored another 7 points, but USC follwed with another seven of its own on a 15-yard pass from Slovis to Bryant.

The score at halftime was 14 to 35 in favor of the Trojans.

Arizona was the first to score in the third quarter, a 37-yard interception that put 7 more points up. USC managed a 23-yard field goal by Alex Stadthaus.

During the fourth quarter, Arizona opened with another 7 points, but could manage only two more field goals. That would not have been enough even had the Trojans not added another field goal themselves.

Next week the Trojans will play Arizona State on the road.
