Winter sports COVID-19 protocols

I hope all is well with you and your families.

As our Fall Sports Championships continue, the beginning of our Winter Sports season is rapidly approaching. Therefore, I wanted to review the current COVID-19 protocols for Winter Indoor Sports ensure that you are updated. Also, we have just completed the First Round of our Football Championships utilizing the new system of using current regular season results to formulate divisions and I wanted to share that data vs. 2019, the last time we had Football Championships.

WINTER INDOOR SPORTS – COVID-19 PROTOCOLS FOR INDOOR SPORTS

Our full slate of Winter Sports: Boys/Girls Basketball, Boys/Girls Soccer, Girls Water Polo, Boys/Girls Wrestling and Traditional Competitive Cheer, which continues from the Fall season, will start their seasons on Monday, November 15. Our schedules for regular season and post-season for all those sports are in place and moving forward as originally planned. As for COVID-19 protocols, there is still a California Department of Public Health mandate in place requiring masks to be worn by all participants involved in indoor sports. Boys/Girls Wrestling and Traditional Competitive Cheer, per current CDPH guidelines, allow schools the option of weekly testing for COVID-19 in lieu of wearing masks, due to the potential choking hazards associated with those sports. As for Boys/Girls Basketball, current CDPH Guidelines allow for local county health departments to permit schools the option of weekly testing, instead of having to wear masks. As of today, Orange County is the only county in the Southern Section footprint permitting this testing option for schools in Orange County. Therefore, if there is a Basketball contest between two Orange County schools being played in Orange County, neither school would be required to wear a mask. If there are contests where schools from Orange County are traveling to other counties, or schools from other counties are travelling to play in Orange County, participants will still have to follow the CDPH mask mandate and wear masks in those scenarios. I will be sure to keep you updated and informed on any changes as we move forward.

I hope this information is useful to you in the time ahead and if you have any questions, or I can help you in any way at all, do not hesitate to contact our office. My staff and I are ready, willing and able to assist you in any way we possibly can.

Thank you very much for your help and support, it is truly appreciated!
