Bill Thomas: The 97+ year-old veteran

Never again in Bill Thomas’ lifetime will the following ever happen again.

ITEM 1. Much of this portion of his lifetime began with the Veterans’ Social at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, in the Garden Room in Rowntree Gardens, Stanton, California. Many resident Veterans attended. Staff members served coffee and a delicious variety of donuts.

The Guest Speaker at this event was Victor Pavo Real who was a former Marine helicopter pilot and mechanic in World War 2. He spoke and showed visuals of his personal experiences, and numerous descriptions of various helicopters.

ITEM 2. On Thursday, November 11th, at 10 a.m. the Veterans’ Pinning Ceremony was conducted in the Chapel. Each Veteran who attended received verbal recognition and a lapel pin from various Staff personnel.

ITEM 3. On Thursday, November 11th, thousands of Veterans, their family and friends chose to travel to the State Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa to attend the Orange County 2nd District 2021 Veterans of the Year Award Ceremony in front of the Heroes Hall Museum.

Katrina Foley, Supervisor, 2nd District, County of Orange presented a 12 x 18 inch, framed certificate to Bill Thomas as one of the recipients of the 2021 Veteran of the Year.

The first three paragraphs describe some of the history of the USA, its military involvement and their armed forces’ dedication, bravery, and sacrifices of life and limbs, etc.

The next five statements on the certificate contain some of the participation of one of the Veteran of the Year.

WHEREAS, World War Two was the most widespread war in history, in which Americans rallied together after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; and
WHEREAS, William John Thomas served in the United States Army during World War Two and earned a Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, William John Thomas served as a Post Commander of the Veteran Foreign Wars (VFW) and Vice Commander of the American Legion and,
WHEREAS, William John Thomas has dedicated his life to serving Veterans throughout Orange County through education and advocacy;
NOW, therefore be it be resolved that William John Thomas is recognized as “2021 Veteran of the Year” for Orange County’s Second District for his dedication to his country, community and family. His dedication and service to our country will never be forgotten. We are honored to recognize his sacrifice and legacy.
