The party may be over, and the bill due, for California residents who applied for and received Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) without proof of prior employment.
New federal rules require California to collect proof of prior employment for all those receiving PUA.
If a recipient can’t provide proof of prior employment, the assistance funds must be repaid to the State of California — in an amount up to and including the entire amount of assistance received.
PUA claimants who receive and respond to a Verify Your Employment Status for Your Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Claim (DE 6316SEES) notice are verifying the responses they provided on their application and bi-weekly certifications are true and correct.
