The City of Garden Grove was awarded a $6,000,000 grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation to help fund the revitalization and expansion of Woodbury Park, located at 13800 Rosita Place.
“With the City’s current financial constraints and an understanding of the community’s important needs and desires for their neighborhood park, the City worked tirelessly to obtain this crucial state funding that will help bring the Woodbury Park ‘wish list’ closer to reality,” said Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones.
Included in the remodel of the 3.3-acre park is the installation of a new walking trail; outdoor fitness equipment; recreational swimming pool; two playground areas; picnic shelters; a skate spot; basketball courts; lighting; restrooms; and parking lot.
“Once completed, Woodbury will have all the qualities of a modern-day park with state-of-the art equipment that will meet the needs of the community for many generations,” said Community Services Director John Montanchez.
To incorporate ideas from the surrounding community, the City’s Community Services Department hosted several multi-lingual community meetings, from 2019 to 2020. In addition, through the collaboration of the Garden Grove Unified School District, parents and students in the surrounding area were involved in the plan development.
The multimillion-dollar award comes from California’s Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (SPP), which helps create new parks and recreation opportunities in underserved communities.
