City of Long Beach provides update on Long Beach Airport Terminal Area Improvement Program

Phase II of the Terminal Area Improvement Project – Phase I was the construction of the award-winning new terminal – began last year, and the first portion is currently expected to open in the Spring of 2022.

Phase II includes the following amenities:

  • Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS)
  • Baggage Claim Area Improvements
  • Ticketing Facilities
  • Terminal Renovation Improvements
  • Rental Car Customer Service Improvements
  • Meeter and Greeter Plaza

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill passed last month included nearly $300 million in direct investment to California airports. Senator Alex Padilla announced Long Beach Airport would directly receive over $6 million in funding which will help with Phase II Terminal Area Improvement Project.

The rest of the funding for the Terminal Area Improvements has come from other Federal grants, Airport bonds, and the Airport’s enterprise fund; no General Fund money is used to support the Long Beach Airport, it is completely self-sustaining through ground leases and passenger fees.
