Weekly message from Neighborhood Church: Get used to different!

Ephesians 4:24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Happy New Year! What a fun time of the year to reflect on last year and look forward to the new adventure this year will bring. Many of us take this time to consider new patterns, new routines, and new opportunities to take on. It will most likely mean we will need to change, make some alterations in our schedule and actions. If we diet, we will need to change the pattern and kinds of food we eat. If we take on a new hobby or sport, we need to adjust our calendars to fit in time to practice. It will be different, and to be successful we will need to get used to different.

In the TV series The Chosen, which is about Jesus and His followers, there is a scene where Jesus is asking Matthew to follow Him. Peter doesn’t get it, saying that Matthew is different. Jesus responds, “Get used to different.” Following Jesus, living life His way, being a believer in Christ, a Christian, is a choice to live a different life. Different from the world, different from empty religious practice. It’s a new kind of life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

It’s a life of observing what Jesus did and following Him, doing what He did.

1 Peter 2:21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

Jesus was very different from the religious leaders and customs of His day. He sought to love God and love people illustrated in the Parable of the Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37.

Following Jesus is different. So is making new year’s resolutions. To be successful at either is going to take getting used to different. Let’s make 2022 a year of getting used to different. In that I believe we will thrive, especially as we follow Jesus.

Church is a great place to be encouraged and know how to live the difference of following Jesus. If you don’t have a church you regularly attend, we would like to invite you to view or visit Neighborhood Church. Our website has all the information you need for times and locations of all our Sunday gatherings. We would love for you to join in. You can also find us online at neighborhoodchurch.com.
