Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-CA47) surveys constituents for their opinion on legislative priorities for 2022

Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-CA47), who will retire at the end of this term, is asking his constituents to tell him what Congress should make a priority during 2022. (See list below.)

Everyone in California Congressional District 47 should be encouraged to fill out and submit a survey.

Yes, everyone.

Registered voter, or not registered. Natural-born citizen, naturalized citizen, legal resident, undocumented.

Rep. Lowenthal represents everyone who resides in his Congressional District.

Democrats are well-known for seeking to push the envelope on who is eligible to vote. I think voting should be limited to citizens who register to vote. I also think that voting rolls should be regularly and transparently cleaned up — removing dead people and felons and those who have moved to other jurisdictions.

However, once elected, a representative at any level should represent all the residents within his or her district.

When filling out the survey, I ask that you, first, stop and think about whether the particular issue should be addressed by the government at any level; and, second, whether the federal government is the best level to address the issue.

For instance “Fixing the national supply chain problems” and “Resolve supply chain challenges”s are not problems that the government can unknot — the most that government can do is get out of the way and make it easier on the private sector to find solutions.

Another example is “Addressing police brutality” which is a local issue. We do not want the federal government micromanaging our local police departments. That doesn’t mean that there are no problems with local police departments, nor that local police departments should go unsupervised. It means that the federal government is the wrong level of government to provide management and supervision of local police departments.

Below is a list of suggestions provided by Rep. Lowenthal. Remember to click through to actually fill out and submit a survey.
