The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Center issued a tsunami advisory for the California coast following the eruption of the Hunga Tonga volcano near Tonga in the Pacific Ocean.
Waves were expected to hit the coast of California around 7 a.m. on January 15. All harbors and beaches in Orange County were ordered closed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The State Operations Center is actively coordinating response response efforts.
