Fullerton Elks Lodge hosted Hoop Shoot event

Fullerton Elks Lodge recently hosted its 45th annual Hoop Shoot contest at El Dorado High School in Placentia, California. Boys and girls, ages eight to thirteen, participate and shoot the best out of twenty-five free throws. The Lodge initiated our involvement in this free contest in 1976.

Several Elk volunteers helped to include: ER Dana Antolin; PER Dave Lawhorn; Joe and Carolyn Rosenberg; PER Dan Casey; PER Alan Kelly; Alex Nunez; Leading Knight Marie Nunez; Trudy Nuzum; Orange District Hoop Shoot Chair Rick Ross; Kristen Vartanian; Ethan Vartanian and Steve Vartanian.

Contestants included Adam Vartanian, and the Rosenberg’s grandson Tommy. A total of thirty-one contestants participated. The Lodge partnered with Top Ballers Basketball League (Topballers.org) to put on the event.

Also, the Lodge made donations to Top Ballers in the amount of $300 to go towards scholarships for disadvantaged boys and girls, $200 to Fairmont Elementary for physical education equipment, and three new basketballs to East Lake Village, a community in Yorba Linda, California. In addition, it is through Elks member’s donations and support that the Lodge can be involved in Hoop Shoot and other service projects.

This event would not have been possible without the Lodge’s Hoop Shoot Chair, Steve Vartanian, who has been involved since 1993. Fullerton Lodge is home to two National Champions and dozens of State and District champions.
