Upcoming Brookhurst Street Phase Two Construction

Crews will shift traffic to the new portion of the Brookhurst Street bridge in early February. The traffic shift is needed to begin the second phase of demolition and construction of the new bridge.

This work will require bridge and extended ramp closures.

The second phase of demolition is anticipated to begin in mid-to late February.

UPDATE! Southbound and Northbound Euclid Street Closures

Crews will continue removing the brackets and scaffolding from the I-405 bridge over Euclid Street.

This work will require a full southbound (SB) and northbound (NB) Euclid closures between Mt. Washington Street and the SB freeway ramps.

The SB closures are scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Friday, Jan. 21;
  • Wednesday, Jan. 26;
  • Thursday, Jan. 27; and
  • Friday, Jan. 28.

The NB closures are scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Monday, Jan. 24; and
  • Tuesday, Jan. 25.

NEW! Goldenwest Street Bridge Closure

Crews will pour concrete for the Goldenwest Street bridge over I-405.

This work will require a full Goldenwest bridge closure between Sowell Avenue and Westminster Mall Road.

The closure is anticipated for 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.

COMING SOON! Southbound I-405 On-Ramp from Seal Beach Boulevard to Close for Approximately One Month

Crews will close the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Seal Beach Boulevard for approximately one month to accommodate the freeway widening.

The ramp is scheduled to close 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, and is anticipated to reopen after approximately one month.

COMING SOON! Southbound I-405 Off-Ramp to Goldenwest Street/Westminster Mall Road to Close for Approximately Six Weeks

Crews will close the southbound (SB) I-405 off-ramp to Goldenwest Street/Westminster Mall Road for approximately six weeks to accommodate the freeway widening.

The ramp is scheduled to close 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, and is anticipated to reopen after approximately six weeks.

NEW! Northbound (NB) I-405 Closure to Adjust Westminster Boulevard Falsework

Crews will adjust the falsework for the Westminster Boulevard bridge over I-405.

This work will require a NB I-405 closure between the NB I-405 off-ramp to Bolsa Avenue and the NB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster.

NB I-405 is set to close 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, to 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28.

NEW! Southbound (SB) I-405 Closure to Adjust Westminster Boulevard Falsework

Crews will adjust the falsework for the Westminster Boulevard bridge over I-405.

This work will require a SB I-405 closure between the SB I-405 off-ramp to Springdale Street and the SB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster.

SB I-405 is set to close 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, to 5 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29.

REMINDER! Northbound (NB) Brookhurst I-405 On- and Off-Ramps Closed for Approximately Two Months

Crews closed the NB I-405 off-ramp to Brookhurst Street and the NB I-405 loop on-ramp from NB Brookhurst to accommodate the freeway widening.

The ramps were closed on Monday, Jan. 3, and are anticipated to reopen after approximately two months.

REMINDER! Nightly Brookhurst Street Bridge and Ramp Closures for a Retaining Wall and Utility Work

Crews will close the Brookhurst Street bridge and ramps nightly, for retaining wall and utility work.

The nightly closures are anticipated to continue, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately two more weeks, on weeknights and weekends, as needed.

REMINDER! Westbound (WB) SR-22 On-Ramp from Old Ranch Parkway Closure to Extend for Approximately Three Months

Crews closed the Old Ranch Parkway on-ramp to WB SR-22 on April 13. The ramp will be closed for an additional three months due to unforeseen site conditions, to address complexities with traffic staging, and to accommodate the freeway widening.

The ramp is anticipated to reopen in spring 2022.

Construction Activities

Almond Avenue

UPDATE! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the sound wall along Almond Avenue, east of the park. The foundation consists of 71 cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles. This activity includes augering large holes, and installing forms and steel cages and pouring concrete into the holes to form the piles.

Following these activities, crews will begin working on the concrete safety barrier and the sound wall.

Ongoing, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, as needed, for approximately three weeks.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.

The 405 Community Outreach Team will provide schedule updates in future alerts.

Beach Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews are constructing curb and gutter along northbound (NB) Beach Boulevard. This work requires NB Beach to be reduced to two lanes between Center Avenue and the NB I-405 off-ramp to NB Beach.

The lane reductions will be in place continuously through
9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.

Newland Street

NEW! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of the Newland Street bridge over I-405. The foundation of the outside abutments consists of 38 steel piles.

The pile installation for the outside abutments is anticipated to begin as early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, for approximately one month, on weekdays and Saturdays as needed.

Crews will begin installing piles for the center bents later this year.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.

Fairview Road

NEW! Crews will remove a portion of the existing retaining wall along the southbound I-405 off-ramp to Fairview Road, and also grade around the wall.

The wall removal and grading is anticipated for 7 a.m. to
4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, and again on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.

I-405/SR-73 HOV Connector

REMINDER! Crews are working on the foundation of the southbound (SB) I-405/SR-73 HOV connector bridge. The foundation consists of 8 cast-in-drilled hole (CIDH) and 35 steel pipe piles.

The CIDH activity includes installing large-diameter casings approximately 200 feet into the ground.

The steel pipe piles will be driven into the soil until reaching a hard layer of earth beneath the structure foundation.

Pile installation activities are ongoing and will continue 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and weekends, as needed, through Spring 2022.

Daytime and nighttime lane reductions on SB I-405, between SR-73 and Bear Street are anticipated to support the work.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.
