Senator Umberg announces Young Senators Program

Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana) announced today that the inaugural Young Senators Program for the 34th Senate District is now accepting applications. The goal of this program is to provide current High School Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors with educational opportunities that foster skills in public service, empowering them as community leaders.

“Young people are often eager to make a change in our community, but don’t quite yet know how to get started. The Young Senators program is intended to be a pipeline that transforms the unique perspectives, experiences, and passions of our community’s high school students into positive societal change,” said Senator Umberg. “In the long run, empowering the diverse communities of Senate District 34 will also help deliver a more representative government that looks like California.”

Participating students will attend monthly meetings, during which they will hear from local and statewide public policy experts, participate in discussions and debates on current events & policy proposals, and strategize on creating and promoting local events that benefit our community.

The application period for the Young Senators Program is now open, and will be accepting applications through February 20, 2022. To apply, please visit the application page from the program by clicking here. No prior work or volunteer experience is required!
