LBPD make arrest in murder investigation in 5400 block of Long Beach Boulevard

On Feb. 12, 2022, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to assist the Long Beach Fire Department who was responding to the 5400 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a report of a man down, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

The reporting party described a man down on the ground, bleeding from the upper body and not moving. Long Beach Fire Department personnel were the first to arrive and determined the man deceased at the scene. Officers arrived on scene shortly after and found the man suffered what appeared to be an apparent single gunshot wound to his upper body.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. After examining the scene and contacting witnesses, detectives learned a male subject driving a silver van was involved in the murder. Through their thorough investigation, detectives discovered evidence at the scene that enabled them to identify the shooter as 54-year-old Quentin Anderson. Detectives worked relentlessly throughout the night to find and apprehend the suspect, ultimately locating a van registered to Anderson parked on the street in the 900 block of East 109th Street in the City of Los Angeles. On Feb. 13, 2022, at approximately 6:44 a.m., detectives observed Anderson leave a residence near his van and successfully placed him into custody without incident.

At this time, detectives are still working to determine the motive for the shooting and the connection between Anderson and the victim. Both Anderson and the victim are believed to be experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County.

Anderson will be booked into the Long Beach City Jail on one count of murder and held without bail on an outstanding parole violation. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office early this week for filing consideration.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Christian Santillan of Long Beach.
