CHP Westminster investigating Feb. 20 fatal wrong-way traffic collision

On February 20, 2022, at approximately 0126 hours, the Orange County Communication Center (OCCC) broadcast a call of a black Honda Civic driving wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes, on I-405 at Seal Beach Boulevard. Several Westminster CHP Area units responded to the location. At approximately 0129 hours, the OCCC broadcast an additional call of a traffic collision on I-405 south of I-605.

Upon CHP arrival at I-405 S/B, south of the Los Angeles/Orange County line, officers located a collision involving 7 vehicles, including two black Honda Civics which were believed to have collided as a result of the wrong way driving. As a result of this collision, a 21 year old male from La Puente and a 30 year old male from Midway City succumbed to their injuries on scene. A 28 year old female from Rancho Palos Verdes was subsequently transported to the Long Beach Memorial Hospital with major injuries. This collision is still under investigation.
