Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes endorses Nathan Hochman for California Attorney General

Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes announced his endorsement of former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Nathan Hochman (@NathanHochmanAG) for California Attorney General.

“California is in dire need of an Attorney General that understands how to protect Californians’ safety and security,” Barnes said. “The soft on crime approach coming from the current Attorney General sets a dangerous precedent, and as the Sheriff of Orange County, I have seen firsthand how these policies have endangered our local communities. Nathan Hochman has the leadership and experience that is needed to bring this state’s law enforcement policies back on track. His many years at the Department of Justice, tough on crime and pragmatic approach, and support for victims’ rights have prepared him to take on the responsibilities of being our state’s top law enforcement officer. Nathan is the right person at the right time with the right policies and has my full and complete endorsement for California Attorney General.”

Hochman has served as an Assistant US Attorney for the Central District of California and as a US Assistant Attorney General for the US Department of Justice. Hochman has also worked as a civil litigator, defense and appellate attorney, and general counsel, and clerked for a US District Court Judge. His years of community involvement include membership on numerous charitable boards and serving as President of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes,” Hochman said. “His hard work and dedication to law and order is second to none. He is the epitome of professionalism and integrity in law enforcement, and I look forward to working with him when I take office.”

Since announcing his run for California Attorney General, Hochman has raised over $1.5 million and secured the endorsement of numerous public officials from across the state, making him the leading Republican challenger to incumbent Attorney General Rob Bonta.
