Jay Chen: Steel votes against LGBTQ marriage equality and protections for interracial marriage

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle Roe v. Wade, and Justice Thomas’s written intention to challenge marriage equality, last night a bipartisan group of Congressmembers passed the Respect for Marriage Act. Congresswoman Steel failed to join her California Republican colleagues and instead voted against codifying marriage equality.

Earlier this term Steel voted against the Equality Act which provides federal nondiscrimination protections for the LGBTQ+ community. Steel was previously criticized for stating she withdrew her daughter from college for supporting gay marriage.

“Tonight Michelle Steel voted against extending basic human rights to members of the LGBTQ community and failed to stand up against discrimination,” said Chen. “While extremely disappointing, this is not surprising. Steel has consistently proven that she can’t be trusted to protect her constituents. In Congress, I will demand respect and equality for everyone regardless of sexuality, gender, race, or religion.”

  1. So Michelle Steel in herself in an “Interracial Marriage” but then votes against protecting an interracial marriage. Why did Michelle Steel remove her daughter from college? Probably to keep her from learning critical thinking. Republican playbook, keep-em ignorant then lie to them about what you want them to think and vote. 2. When we know the Democrat politicians and media lie all the time, why would anyone believe anything they say?

  3. Very tired of Democrats distorting the truth. This is another reason there will be a Red Wave in December giving Republicans the House and probably the Senate. Goodbye Jay Chen!

    1. Why will the Red Wave be in December when the election is in November? Does that extra month allow the Republicans to cheat on counting votes to steal an election like they really want to do?
