To mark the annual Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) Intermodal EXPO 2022, Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) introduced a House of Representatives resolution recognizing Intermodal Day and the importance of the intermodal industry to the American economy.
The intermodal industry, which connects railroads, ocean carriers, truckers, ports and other critical players in the transportation and logistics sectors, generates more than $51 billion of revenue in North America annually and moves over 52 million domestic and international containers on its network.
The intermodal industry is critical to efficient, clean, and reliable supply chains. Workers and companies in this critical sector have worked to deliver for the American people through the shocks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
“Congress has taken bold steps to support the intermodal industry, though the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” Congressman Lowenthal said. “The bill included $567 billion allocated specifically for preparing the nation’s freight supply chain for the future and established an Office of Multimodal Freight Infrastructure and Policy in the Department of Transportation. However, it is critical that we come together to recognize the importance of this vital industry to the health of our entire economy.”
