The September Thoroughbred meet at Los Alamitos will begin Friday, Sept. 16.
The seven-day season will continue through Sunday, Sept. 25 with racing conducted on a Friday-Sunday basis the first week (Sept. 16-18) and Thursday-Sunday the final week (Sept. 22-25). Post time will be 1 p.m on weekdays (Sept. 16, 22 & 23) and 12:30 on weekends (Sept. 17-18 and 24-25).
The meet will include four stakes worth a combined $300,000, beginning with the $75,000-guaranteed E.B. Johnston Stakes for 3-year-olds & up bred or sired in California. The one-mile Johnston will be run Saturday, Sept. 17.
The following day, fillies & mares – 3-year-olds & up – will go one mile in the $75,000 Desert Mirage Stakes.
The stakes schedule is completed by the $75,000-guaranteed Los Alamitos Special and the $75,000-guaranteed Capote. The Special, which is for 3-year-olds & up at 1 1/16 miles, will be run Saturday, Sept. 24 while the Capote, a 6 ½ furlong contest for 2-year-olds, will be offered Sunday, Sept. 25.
Track gates – including Burgart’s and Vessels Club – will open at 9:30 a.m. General parking is free with grandstand admission $3 ($2 for seniors). Admission to Burgart’s and Vessels Club is $10.
The wagering menu includes the Pick Six – with the traditional 70%-30% split – a pair of Pick 4’s – races 2-5 and the final four races – as well as the Players’ Pick 5 – a 50-cent minimum wager with a reduced 14% takeout rate which is offered on the first five races.
In addition to the Los Alamitos Special, the Sept. 24th program will feature a live money handicapping contest with two seats available to the 2023 National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas.
