February 3, 2023

Suspicious Subject – 8:40 a.m. – 7700 block of Furman Rd. – A male transient reportedly jumped the fence into the school to the rear and was laying on the field off Comstock. The subject stated that he dropped his cell phone and didn’t realize that he was on school property during school hours. Staff reported that he was compliant when asked to leave. Police contacted the subject and subsequently arrested him for possession of a controlled substance, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and appropriation of lost property.
Traffic Hazard – 9:20 p.m. – Orangethorpe/Centerpointe – Rocks or boulders were reportedly in the roadway on westbound Orangethorpe at Centerpointe. Police determined that they appeared to be pieces of concrete. The roadway was cleared.

February 4, 2023

Vehicle Check – 5:04 a.m. – Centerpointe Dr. – A vehicle was parked to the rear with the engine running. It was determined that the occupant was working on equipment in a nearby business.
Illegal Peddling – 8:53 a.m. – 5600 block of Orangethorpe Ave. – The reporting party complained regarding a transient peddling for gas. Party advised and will comply.
Unknown Trouble – 4:47 p.m. – 5600 block of Orangethorpe Ave. – A female subject in the back seat of a car was possibly screaming. Another subject was possibly yelling at the female and driving forward fast and slamming on the brakes. Police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which failed to yield for a short time. A 38-year-old subject was arrested for evading a peace officer.

February 5, 2023

Disturbance (Subject) – 5:13 p.m. – 4900 block of La Palma Ave. –Brandishing a Weapon – 6:12 p.m. – 7700 block of Valley View St. – The reporting party advised that her 4-year-old daughter was being chased by an 8-10-year-old boy with a pocket knife. Both parties were counseled and spoke to one another.

February 6, 2023

Transient – 12:52 p.m. – 7000 block of Moody St. – A transient was reportedly sleeping in front of the business. Party advised and will comply.

February 7, 2023

Hit and Run – 1:23 a.m. 8100 block of Ainsworth Ln. – A vehicle reportedly hit two other vehicles and attempted to flee. A possible suspect was detained by a citizen, who removed him fromt he driver’s seat. Police conducted field sobriety tests on the subject, who was subsequently arrested for DUI and hit and run.
Assist Other Department – 10:18 a.m. – South/Shoemaker (Cerritos) – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was in pursuit of burglary suspects traveling eastbound on South St. The vehicle was occupied by four subjects. La Palma Police staged in case they were needed. The suspects bailed on foot at South/Shoemaker and LASD set up a perimeter. La Palma Police was requested to assist with the perimeter and search. All four subjects were ultimately detained and taken into the custody of LASD.
Petty Theft – 2:20 p.m. – 5400 block of Orangethorpe Ave. – A subject reportedly stole items from the store. The loss included cigarettes and lighters. The reporting party desired prosecution. Police conducted and area check and located a subject matching the description. After some discussion, no report was desired. The subject left the area and provided groceries. Resources were declined. All stolen property was returned.

February 8, 2023

Petty Theft – 3:53 p.m. – 5400 block of La Palma Ave. – A petty theft just occurred with a subject taking $300 worth of items. Police detained a female subject. The subject made suicide threats if she were arrested. A 22-year-old female was arrested for possession of brass knuckles and petty theft. The subject was transported to jail and booked.
Suspicious Vehicle – 11:05 p.m. – Willow/Sharon – A subject was reportedly seen going through mail in the neighborhood. It was unknown if anything was taken. Police were unable to locate the subject in the surrounding area.
