As of Aug. 8, 2017, quarterback Kaepernick remained an unsigned free agent after leaving the 49ers during the off-season.
In response to media comments regarding adding “artifacts” from Kaepernick’s actions, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture issued a statement that said in part:
The Museum has not placed the Kaepernick items on view and there are no plans for an exhibition on Colin Kaepernick.
In contrast, the Museum has nothing at all to say on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, a much more important and consequential African-American.
