Edward “Ned” Doheny Jr. and his friend Hugh Plunkett are found shot to death in a guest bedroom of Doheny’s home, the Greystone Mansion. Now owned by the City of Beverly Hills, the house was built by Edward Doheny Sr. as a gift for his son. The deaths remain officially unsolved. [Source:KCET.org] Ned Doheny graduated from the University of Southern California. The main library on the University Park Campus was built in his honor: “As a memorial to their son, the Dohenys contributed the entire $1.1 million needed to build the Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library and actively participated in the design and construction of the facility.” The library was dedicated on Sept. 12, 1931. [Source:usc.edu]
