Colonel Nick Ducich, command of Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos, is promoted to the rank of brigadier general. During the ceremony, Major General David S. Baldwin, the Adjutant General California Military Department, announced that the new brigadier general would soon leave for Washington, D.C. to serve at a high level in homeland defense.

Longtime Los Alamitos resident Marv Jempsa passes away. A World War II veteran, Jempsa was a member of Los Alamitos Rotary and active in local civic affairs. He was married to Alice Jempsa, who served on the Los Alamitos City Council and as Los Alamitos Mayor.
