Retired Lakers basketball star Kobe Bryant and his teenaged daughter Gianna are killed in the crash of a helicopter in the hills near Calabasas. Bryant and his family lived in Newport Beach and were members of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. Among the seven others also killed were three from a single family: Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, Altobelli’s wife Keri, and daughter Alyssa.
