Born: George Niederauer, eighth archbishop of San Francisco. He supported California Proposition 8, which defined marriage as between one man and one woman. Then California Attorney General Jerry Brown refused to defend the Proposition when a law suit was filed. Archbishop Niederauer died on May 2, 2017, in San Rafael. He retired in 2012.
