Cabrillo expedition, led by Bartolomé Ferrer after the death of Cabrillo, reaches 42°N latitude, the present-day boundary between California and Oregon. The ships then return south to La Natividad in Mexico.

City of Los Alamitos, is formally incorporated. The city seal states “Founded in 1784 by Spanish Grant.”
