Seabiscuit wins the Santa Anita Handicap, setting a new track record of 2 minutes and 1 and one-fifth seconds. His owner won $86,650. A grandson of Man o’ War, Seabiscuit was small, underweight, overworked, and overlooked when taken over by Charles and Marcella Howard after a claiming race at Saratoga. He lived to 14 years of age, dying on May 17, 1947. He is buried at Ridgewood Ranch in California.
