1868

The State of California established the University of California, to be governed by an independent corporate body, the Regents of the University. The first campus was in Oakland. The first class had 40 students, taught by 10 faculty members. By its 150th anniversary, the University had grown to ten campuses serving more than 273,000 supported by more than 223,300 faculty and staff.

President Trump federalizes the California National Guard as well as the national guard from the States of Washington and New York. This action allows federal funds to be used to cover the cost of mobilizing the Guard to support state efforts against COVID-19. [Source: Military News]
