Sale of the stock of Julian Petroleum was stopped on May 7, 1927, after his unscrupulous successors bilked investors out of an estimated $150 million, precipitating a local financial crisis. CC Julian founded Julian Petroleumin Southern California, but was forced to resigned in April 1925. Julian committed suicide by poison on March 25, 1934, in Shanghai, China.
