- 1778 The site of Mission San Juan Capistrano is moved to its present site.
- 1846 Andrew Jackson Grayson arrives in California with his family. He would become “the Audubon of the West” by painting birds of the Pacific Coast, eventually published as Birds of the Pacific Slope.
- 1904 After the success of the first aqueduct bringing water from the Colorado River to Imperial Valley in 1901, a second aqueduct was hurriedly built.
