6th Annual Helena Maria Viramontes Annual Lecture on Latina/o Literature

March 18 @ 4:00 pm

The public is invited to meet artists chosen for the Drake Chavez Greenbelt Park mural project on Monday, July 23 at 6 p.m. at the Park, 1000 DeForest Ave.

Internationally celebrated poet Javier Zamora will be featured at Long Beach State on March 18, 2022 for the 6th Annual Helena Maria Viramontes Annual Lecture on Latina/o Literature. Zamora will lead a creative writing workshop for selected students and will do a virtual public reading.

The lecture series is dedicated to the creation of a public space for community members, faculty, staff, and students to engage with and discuss issues related to Latina/o literature and culture with some of the most important writers and scholars in the field. Now in its 6th year, the annual lecture has garnered widespread interest and support on campus and in the broader Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Orange County communities that CSU Long Beach serves. Chicano and Latino Studies Department Chair Rigoberto Rodriguez stated, “Literature expresses the richness, complexity, and uniqueness of our community’s experiences, dreams, and imaginations. With sincere humility, we thank Helena Maria Viramontes—whose literary work has shaped our field and culture—for trusting us with her name for this event.

The reading will take place on March 18, 2022 at 4:00 PM. More details about the Helena Maria Viramontes Annual Lecture are available at www.viramonteslecture.com. To register please visit: https://csulb.zoom.us/j/81341411196
