Lakewood Patriot Day Ceremony
September 11, 2021 @ 6:00 pm

Just two weeks after the horrors of Sept. 11, 2001, the City of Lakewood organized a community gathering of solidarity at the Lakewood Civic Center. And every year since, on Sept. 11, residents have again gathered to remember and to show appreciation for our first responders and military personnel who protect and serve us at home and abroad.
For 2021, the City of Lakewood invites residents to a flag-lowering ceremony at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 outside City Hall at 5050 Clark Ave.
This year’s expanded ceremony will include the presentation of the colors, remarks from Mayor Jeff Wood, a keynote speaker, a musical performance by the Golden Sands Chorus and a moment of silence. At the conclusion of the event, the Los Angeles County Fire Department will conduct a bell ringing ceremony and trumpeters from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will play Taps as our nation’s flag is lowered for the night.
To help commemorate this 20th anniversary of Patriot Day, the city is also organizing a special Lakewood Day of Service earlier in the day on Sept. 11. Dozens of Lakewood volunteers will work on projects to help their neighbors in need of exterior home fix-up tasks.
