September 10, 2020 @ 7:30 pm

Thursday, Sept 10 – 7:30 pm (online with Zoom)

Join us as we welcome historian Eric Plunkett who will speak about Franciscan friar Junípero Serra y Ferrer (1713 -1784) who led the effort to establish establishing the California Missions. He was a key figure in the development of Alta California and was canonized in 2015 but has become a controversial figure in some circles.

Rioters recently tore down statues of Serra in San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles. OCHS’ program is not intended to praise or condemn Serra, but simply to explain what he did while he was here.

Please follow the link below to RSVP for this OCHS event. Due to limits on how many can attend our Zoom meeting, an RSVP is required to receive the meeting link. Priority will go to OCHS members.

*If you are not familiar with using Zoom, we will 1) send specific instructions to you after registration, 2) you can join our tutorial at 7:00 p.m. to help you get started. There are multiple tutorials on YouTube that are helpful, as well.

NOTE: The Zoom link will be shared with RSVP’d attendees 24 hours hour prior to the presentation on Thursday. Please make sure your name is clearly displayed on your Zoom account when joining or you may not gain entry to the presentation.
